Something to worry about

Each day we are regularly bombarded with news of economic crisis, unemployment, bleak job growth perspectives and similar subjects which, naturally, are motives of great concern for most of us.
But among this turmoil, some news have been cropping up, which taken into consideration as a whole, raise some serious concerns.
The first, announces this year we will be 7 billion living on this planet. According to the records, the world population has been growing 1 billion roughly each 12 years, for the last two decades. In 1960 we were only 3 billion. Around 1820’s we had reached our first billion…
The second news refers to the thawing of the Arctic’s permafrost, releasing an unexpected amount of gases that contribute heavily to the greenhouse effect. As if deforestation, industrialization and overgrazing Earth’s natural resources didn’t contribute enough for all the floods and massive draughts that strike both rich and poor continents.
The third one, the recurring news about world food prices sky-rocketing (FAO food price index reached a record high last January) and the tensions brought with it, pretty much summarize what human-induced natural calamities and ever growing population are doing to Humankind and this Planet’s future. Something very troublesome.
